Who Wants To Gamble?

I’m an amateur poker player, I learn as I play. I pretended to know what I am doing, while secretly learning from others. It took some time to understand the term ‘chase’, ‘pot’, ‘poker face’, ‘bluff’, ‘raise’, ‘re-raise’ and so on until I knew enough to win a few rounds.

Poker is a mind game. If you’re good at it, you can easily understand how each player thinks and how they play their cards. It’s about winning the most chips. But I have since realized poker is more than just a game. It’s a metaphor for one of life’s valuable lessons and I found out the costly way.

Some things happen to us for a reason. Life speaks to us through our deeds, words and even through others. Each day is music to our soul. We dance unaware. The beat speaks and it’s our choice to listen or not. The decisions we make define the outcome of our lives.

I’m scared. I’m afraid. I’m lost. Confused. Unmotivated. Uninspired. I may be a lot of things but I don’t fail trying? I give it a go. It may not be today or tomorrow, but I take one step at a time. There is so much I don’t know about myself. There are many things I’m unsure of and what I am capable of is still unknown to me. I need to re-discover myself, re-evaluate and re-ignite my passion so I began a journey, a journey of endless risks.

How did I do it? By playing poker.

To win big, a player must bet big and risk what he has. This made me realized that like a game of poker, life is a gamble. We all want to be the winner. Get ahead of the rest. Achieve our goals, hopes and dreams. Yet actions speak louder than words. We wait for the right moment, contemplate and make endless excuses for not doing enough. There’s time limit when you play poker. When someone places a bet you can either call or fold. You can’t sit thinking about it for too long. This reminds me of myself, how I like to sit around and wait for inspiration to come before doing something meaningful.

We all want good things for ourselves. But to win in this game, we must risk whatever is necessary. Socializing, partying and other commitments can hinder our goals. We must prioritize and give up some things to achieve other things. If you wanted the whole ‘pot’, the goodness of everything life has to offer, then bet your chips. Take time to invest in your future, gamble because everything in life is.

I wanted to win and get the most chips but I was afraid to risk my chips. I either ‘check or folded’. The only time I bet, is when I know for sure that I have very good hand and have a good chance of winning. My assurance increases my faith instead of my hope. I won those rounds, but could have won even more if I risked more. It’s exactly like that with my life. Afraid to take risks even with the smallest things. Instead of having faith in myself, Fear got hold of me. I’ve always been afraid of taking chances. Afraid of change or stepping out my comfort zone. I wanted something new but I was stuck in my old ways. So I kept on loosing, my stacks getting smaller and smaller. Until one day I had the courage to bet, risk, bluff and re-raise until what I was afraid of faded away. Eventually they ‘folded’. I won and my chips increased.

If you feel unsatisfied. If you feel something is missing and the road you’re on seem plain and repetitive. Create a change, take a different route. Don’t wait for an opportunity, create one yourself. Start risking little by little until you find yourself looking toward a different horizon.

Sometimes you have to keep walking to find your place in this world.

We all deserve goodness. We all deserve love. We all deserve to win. But it can never happen on its own. It’s our job to make the first step and if we don’t risk a bit of ourselves, we will never know. I’m on this journey right now. I’m seeing progress and results. I’m not dwelling on my failures anymore. Instead, I see them as strengths. It took some time to wake up to myself and realized there is more to life than just having fun. Now I feel so free and every risk I take makes me a better person and it draws me closer and closer to the life I have imagined for myself!

What are some risks you may have taken so far? What were the outcomes of these risks? Would you like to share them with us, so we can learn from each other’s experiences.

Made by hand papers suppliers are selling most effective synthetic documents together with a number of kinds as well as silk papers, natural leather papers, natural papers, moonrock or flowery papers. Made by hand documents tend to be more appealing as well as loaded surface will make it distinct from the device manufactured papers. There’re manufactured from tree-free materials for instance abaca or hemp.
